Was Jesus different from the other prophets and how can we say that He was God?

If someone said that Jesus was a son of God just like all the other prophets – a good question to ask them is “what If that’s not what Jesus thought about Himself?”. Because when we read the Bible, we know that the claims that Jesus made about Himself, the authority He showed, the miracles He performed – all of it makes Jesus stand out from all the other prophets before or after Him. The former atheist who later became a great Christian apologist wrote in the classic book Mere Christianity – “I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” What made Lewis speak with such confidence? The answer lies in the Bible – clearly. Jesus did miracles where He exhibited power to command and control the forces of nature, brought back dead people to life, multiplied food etc. Jesus also accepted worship from others and did not stop them. Even the demons referred to Jesus as “The Son of God” and not a son of God. Jesus also said He had the power to forgive sins of any individual. He claimed the titles of God for Himself. It is because Jesus led a life and taught teachings which rightly and clearly exhibited His Deity to the people around Him at that time, that the Jews of His day tried to Kill Him accusing Him of blasphemy. While we all are God’s children, Jesus is “The son of God” in a unique and special manner. The prophets before Jesus prophesied about the Saviour(details of his birth, lifestyle, manner of death etc) who was the promised Messiah – all of which is fulfilled in Jesus Christ our Lord.
